Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 13 years old or older and weigh at least 30 kg (about 66 lbs)
  • You are currently a student (junior high, senior high, or university) or a staff member registered at a school
  • You have had close contact with someone at your school who has been diagnosed with active tuberculosis (TB) in their lungs — meaning you shared the same classroom or dormitory with them AND spent more than 4 hours total in an enclosed space with them within one week
  • You have been tested and confirmed to have a latent TB infection (meaning the TB bacteria are in your body but you are not sick with active TB)
  • If you are 18 or older, you are willing to participate and sign a consent form
  • If you are between 13 and 17 years old, a parent or guardian has agreed and signed a consent form on your behalf

Who may not be able to join:

  • You currently have active TB disease
  • The TB strain from the person who infected you is known to be resistant to the antibiotics isoniazid or rifampicin
  • You have taken certain TB-related antibiotics (rifampicin, rifapentine, or isoniazid) for more than 14 days in a row at any point in the past 2 years
  • You have already completed a full course of treatment for active TB or latent TB infection in the past
  • You have had a bad reaction or cannot tolerate certain TB medications (rifapentine, rifampicin, or isoniazid)
  • You are HIV positive or have AIDS
  • You have a history of chronic hepatitis B, chronic hepatitis C, or liver scarring (cirrhosis)
  • You have liver or kidney problems shown in your blood test results (confirm with trial site)
  • You are currently taking medicines that suppress your immune system or biological therapy drugs
  • You have certain blood disorders affecting your platelet or white blood cell counts (confirm with trial site)
  • The trial doctors have identified any other health reason they feel makes participation unsuitable for you
