Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older
- People who speak and read English
- People who are scheduled to have their bladder removed (radical cystectomy) or kidney and/or ureter removed (radical nephroureterectomy/ureterectomy), with or without treatment beforehand, and who have enough time to complete at least 4 weeks of exercises before their surgery if placed in the exercise program group
- People who are willing and able to take part in the trial's activities
Who may not be able to join:
- People with significant memory problems, cognitive difficulties, or dementia that would make it hard to follow instructions or perform exercises
- People who are unable to move around safely, are unwilling to do a personalised exercise program at home, have had recent falls or are at high risk of falling, or have a nerve or bone/joint condition that prevents safe unsupervised exercise (such as stroke with ongoing physical impairment or restrictions on putting weight through a limb)
- People whose cancer has not invaded the muscle wall of the bladder or urinary tract and who are planning to have treatments that keep the organ in place, or people who have signs on scans that the cancer has spread to other organs, including the brain
- People whose cancer is primarily a type other than urothelial carcinoma of the bladder or urinary tract (for example, a cancer that has spread from elsewhere in the body), and who would not otherwise be considered candidates for the relevant surgery with or without pre-surgery treatment
- People with serious uncontrolled health conditions, including active infection, heart failure, unstable chest pain, irregular heart rhythm, or mental health or personal circumstances that would make it difficult to follow the study requirements
- People who are pregnant
- People who do not have access to an Android or Apple (iOS) smart device that meets the minimum requirements to run the ExerciseRx app
- People who are not having their surgery at UWMC (University of Washington Medical Center)
- People already enrolled in another clinical trial that does not allow participation in this trial at the same time
