Who might be able to join this trial:
- People between 18 and 65 years old
- People with severe obesity (a BMI of 40 or above), or people with a BMI between 35 and 40 who also have at least one related health condition that surgery is expected to improve (such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, or joint disease)
- People who have had a camera examination of their upper digestive system (including tissue samples to check for a stomach bacteria called Helicobacter pylori) within the 12 months before surgery
- People who have completed a full team-based health evaluation at least 6 months before, and received a positive recommendation for gastric bypass surgery
- People who understand and accept the need for long-term follow-up appointments after surgery
- People who have agreed to take part and have signed the consent form
- People who are covered by a French social security scheme
- Women of childbearing age who are using an effective form of contraception
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously had any weight-loss (bariatric) surgery
- People with a history of chronic inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis)
- People who currently have ongoing chronic diarrhea
- People living with a severe, life-threatening illness that is actively progressing
- People who have abnormal or precancerous changes in the stomach lining, chronic stomach inflammation causing tissue loss, or a history of stomach cancer
- People with a stomach or upper intestinal ulcer that has not healed
- People with Helicobacter pylori infection that has not responded to medical treatment
- People with inflammation of the esophagus (the tube connecting the throat to the stomach)
- People who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant during the study period
- People who have a mental health condition that affects their ability to make decisions, or who are under legal supervision or guardianship for this reason
- People who do not understand French or are otherwise unable to give informed consent
- People who are already taking part in another interventional clinical trial
- People under legal protection measures such as tutelage, curatorship, or judiciary safeguard (confirm with trial site for exact legal definitions)
- People with type 1 diabetes
