Who might be able to join this trial:
- Women who have been through menopause for at least two years
- Women whose bone density scan shows a T-score below -2.5 at the lower spine, hip, or upper thigh bone (indicating osteoporosis)
- Women who have had a bone fracture in the last 3 years at the spine, hip, pelvis, shoulder, or forearm, occurring after the age of 50
Who may not be able to join:
- Women who have taken any osteoporosis medications, including hormone replacement therapy, within the last 5 years
- Women who have a disease that directly affects bone metabolism (confirm with trial site)
- Women with certain health conditions known to affect bone health, such as uncontrolled overactive thyroid, liver problems, rheumatic disease, severe chronic lung disease (COPD), problems with the pituitary gland, or Cushing's disease
- Women currently taking steroid tablets or injections (such as prednisolone) on an ongoing basis
- Women whose kidneys are not working well enough (based on a specific blood test measuring kidney function)
- Women who cannot take the medication zoledronate for any medical reason
- Women who cannot take the medication romosozumab for any medical reason
- For those who may have a small bone sample taken (biopsy): women who cannot have local anaesthetic for any medical reason
- For those who may have a small bone sample taken (biopsy): women who cannot take the antibiotics tetracycline or doxycycline for any medical reason
