Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 6 and 17 years old
  • You are a non-smoker and do not vape
  • (For the Cystic Fibrosis group) You have been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF)
  • You do not use supplemental (extra) oxygen
  • You are able to do a breathing test called spirometry, your lung function has been stable (within 10% of your personal best) over the last 6 months, and you have not had a lung flare-up in the past 4 weeks
  • Your breathing test results are within a healthy range, showing good lung function (confirm with trial site)

Who may not be able to join:

  • Healthy volunteers who have any history of a long-term lung condition, such as asthma
  • Anyone who currently smokes or has quit smoking less than 1 year ago
  • Anyone who cannot have an MRI scan due to safety reasons, including: a metal object injury to the eye or body, a non-MRI-safe implanted drug device, a bone growth stimulator, a cochlear or ear implant, a spinal or brain fluid shunt, any magnet-held implant, or claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces)
  • Anyone who is unable to tolerate breathing in the special gas mixture used in the study
  • Anyone whose facial hair prevents a face mask from fitting tightly and securely
  • Anyone who is pregnant
  • Anyone who has had a change in their CF-related medications or lung medications in the past 28 days, including any experimental treatments
