Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have had a daily headache every day since it started, lasting more than 3 months
- People whose headache feels like a pressure sensation
- People whose headache gets worse when lying with their head lower than their feet (such as in a tilted position)
- People who have previously been treated with medications that lower the pressure or volume of fluid around the brain and spine (CSF)
- People who have tried at least 2 of these 4 specific medications — acetazolamide, methazolamide, indomethacin SR, or spironolactone — unless there was a medical reason not to, or who have had fluid removed from around the spine (a lumbar puncture) with a neutral or positive response
- People who have tried at least 3 standard headache prevention medications from different medication groups (such as antidepressants, anti-seizure medications, or blood pressure medications) without success
- People whose MRI scan shows a specific set of physical findings related to blood vessel compression in the abdomen, known as "Nutcracker physiology" (confirm with trial site)
- People whose MRI shows particular features including a narrowed angle in a specific abdominal blood vessel, narrowing of the renal vein, and certain blood flow patterns (confirm with trial site)
- People who are able to understand the study procedures and follow them throughout the entire study
- People who have a negative pregnancy test
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose eye examination shows swelling of the optic disc (a sign of increased pressure)
- People whose urine test shows blood or protein in the urine
- People with abnormal results on standard blood count or metabolic blood tests
- People whose MRI, MRA (brain and neck blood vessel imaging), or MR venogram (vein imaging) shows another possible cause for their headache, such as a brain tumour, Chiari malformation, blood clot in a brain vein, fluid build-up in the brain, a torn blood vessel, or an aneurysm
