Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 70 years old
- People who are willing to give their agreement to take part by signing or video-recording a consent form
- People who are well enough to carry out daily activities with little or no limitation (as assessed by a doctor using a standard scale called ECOG 0–2)
- People whose cancer has been confirmed by laboratory testing as squamous cell carcinoma (a specific type of cancer affecting the lining of body surfaces)
- People with this cancer in one of these areas: the mouth, the throat (including the part behind the mouth or the lower part), or the voice box
- People with cancer of any grade, and of any gender
- People whose blood test results within the last 14 days show their bone marrow is producing enough blood cells (specific minimum levels for red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets are required — confirm exact values with the trial site)
- People whose liver and kidney function tests are within the normal range
- People who have had a nutritional assessment and a dental check-up before joining the study
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose tumour tests positive for HPV (also called p16 positive)
- People who have previously had surgery or radiation treatment for a head and neck cancer
- People with a specific early-stage cancer of the vocal cords known as T1 or T2 Glottis
- People whose cancer has spread to other parts of the body, or whose cancer cannot be treated with focused local treatment
- People with other health conditions that would make it unsafe to receive radiation therapy or a chemotherapy drug called cisplatin
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
