Who might be able to join this trial:
- English is your main language, and you can understand instructions given by the research team.
- You have been diagnosed with PTSD (caused by a traumatic event you experienced), and your symptoms have been present for at least 3 months, confirmed through a professional assessment.
- You are able and willing to have a brain scan called an fMRI (a non-invasive scan that uses magnets, not radiation).
- You are willing to take part in multiple assessments over time, which may include being in a group that waits before receiving treatment.
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a current or past history of psychosis or bipolar disorder, based on what you report or a clinical interview.
- You have had a significant problem with substance dependence (such as alcohol or drugs) in the past 6 months.
- You currently take regular psychiatric medications (such as antidepressants), unless your only medication is a short-acting anxiety or pain medication taken no more than three times a week on average, or a short-acting ADHD medication that can be skipped the day of a study visit.
- You have made a suicide attempt in the past 6 months, or you currently have thoughts of suicide with intent to act.
- You have metal permanently fixed inside your body that cannot be removed (because of the MRI scanner).
- You have a history of certain brain or nervous system conditions, including stroke, epilepsy, seizures (other than fever-related seizures in childhood), brain surgery, brain tumour or bleeding, electroconvulsive therapy, radiation to the brain, or thyroid disorder.
- You are currently pregnant or trying to become pregnant.
- You are currently receiving, or have received in the past year, more than 3 sessions of a talking therapy that includes exposure therapy or restructuring negative thoughts.
- You have previously received or are currently receiving ketamine, esketamine, or any form of brain stimulation treatment (confirm with trial site).
- You are currently receiving another treatment that could interfere with the study results.
- You have had a penetrating head injury or severe traumatic brain injury (note: mild-to-moderate brain injury without a penetrating wound may still be allowed — confirm with trial site).
