  • You currently have open skin wounds being treated, or have had surgery within the last month
  • You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, currently breastfeeding, or are able to become pregnant but not using birth control
  • You have had an allergic reaction, including severe swelling, to the study drug empagliflozin (Jardiance) or any of its ingredients
  • You are currently on dialysis (kidney replacement therapy)
  • Your kidney function is severely reduced below the minimum level required for this trial (confirm with trial site)
  • You have planned surgery or a planned hospital stay within 5 months of joining the study
  • You have a history of heart failure with a weakened pumping function, confirmed by a specific heart test result (confirm with trial site)
  • You have been diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease (a genetic condition causing cysts on the kidneys)
