Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are a man or woman aged 65 or older who is able to walk (even with assistance)
- You live in a nursing home, assisted living facility, or senior community
- You have been diagnosed with osteoporosis (weak or thinning bones), which may have been confirmed by a bone density scan showing low scores, a previous spine or hip fracture caused by a minor injury, or a bone density test combined with a fracture risk calculation showing a high enough risk of future fracture
Who may not be able to join:
- You are currently seriously ill or are not expected to live for more than one year
- You are currently taking, or have recently taken, certain bone-related medications — including bisphosphonates (such as alendronate or risedronate), Denosumab, teriparatide, abaloparatide, or romosozumab (confirm with trial site for exact details)
- You have a history of low calcium levels in your blood, or have a medical reason why the study treatment would not be safe for you
- You are currently taking steroid medications (such as prednisone) that are taken by mouth or injection on a regular basis
- You have vitamin D levels that are too low and do not reach an acceptable level after 8 weeks of vitamin D supplements
- You are currently taking calcitonin (the trial team will ask you to stop this medication due to safety concerns)
Who is still welcome despite other treatments:
- People taking anti-seizure medications, hormone replacement therapy, raloxifene, or wearing protective hip pads may still be able to participate (confirm with trial site)
