Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 years or older
- People with a BMI over 40 kg/m², which is classified as class III (severe) obesity
- People diagnosed with moderate or severe ARDS (a serious lung condition that makes breathing very difficult), as defined by a specific medical standard called the Berlin definition

- People who have a medical order in place to limit or withhold life-sustaining treatments
- People currently being supported by an ECMO machine (a device that takes over the work of the heart and lungs)
- People who have already been on invasive mechanical ventilation for more than 96 hours
- People with raised pressure inside the skull
- People with an active air leak around the lungs, such as a collapsed lung (pneumothorax) or air in the chest cavity around the heart (pneumomediastinum)
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People receiving state medical aid (confirm with trial site)
