Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who are able to understand and sign a written consent form agreeing to take part in the study.
• People who were diagnosed with IPF (a type of lung scarring disease) less than 5 years before joining the trial.
• People whose lung scans (and lung biopsy results, if available) have been reviewed by central medical reviewers and match the expected pattern for IPF.
• People whose lungs are able to transfer oxygen into the blood at a level between 30% and 90% of what is considered normal for their age and size (a breathing test result called DLCO).
• People whose lung capacity (measured by a breathing test called FVC) is at least 50% of what is considered normal.

Who may not be able to join:

• People whose breathing test results show a certain pattern (FEV1/FVC ratio below 0.7 after using a bronchodilator inhaler) that may suggest a different lung condition.
• People who are expected to receive a lung transplant within 1 year of joining the trial, or — for people at trial sites in the United States — people who are already on a lung transplant waiting list at the time of joining.
• People whose interstitial lung disease (scarring in the lungs) has a known cause other than IPF.
• People with a history of asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
• People who currently have an active infection.
• People who are currently receiving other treatments for IPF, including experimental treatments, immunosuppressant medications, or drugs that affect the immune system's signalling proteins.
• People who have had unstable or worsening heart or lung disease (other than IPF) in the past 6 months.
