Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults who have been diagnosed with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) that developed as a result of interpersonal violence (such as abuse, assault, or similar experiences)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who currently have, or have had in the last 3 months, a severe problem with alcohol or drug use
  • People who are currently experiencing, or have experienced in the last 3 months, thoughts of suicide, symptoms of psychosis, or manic episodes
  • People with significant developmental disabilities
  • People who currently take benzodiazepines (a type of sedative or anti-anxiety medication) or stimulants every day and are unable to stop taking them for the study sessions
  • People who have changed their psychiatric medications or started trauma-focused talk therapy (CBT) in the past 4 weeks
  • People who have a medical condition that prevents them from exercising
  • People who have had a traumatic brain injury that caused them to lose consciousness for more than 30 minutes
  • People who are unable to have an MRI scan for any reason (for example, having certain metal implants in their body)
  • People who have a positive pregnancy test
  • People who have a history of seizures (epilepsy or similar conditions)
  • People who have had a seizure without a known cause within the last 3 months
