Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • You have been diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer based on a needle biopsy result that came back as a high-suspicion or likely cancerous result (called Bethesda V or VI)
  • You have an unclear or uncertain thyroid nodule biopsy result (called Bethesda III or IV) that tested positive for certain gene changes linked to thyroid cancer on a special test called ThyroSpec (confirm with trial site)
  • Your thyroid nodule measures more than 1 centimeter (about half an inch) across on a scan or imaging test
  • You are considered healthy enough to have surgery
  • You are willing to give your consent to participate in the trial

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have a history of radiation exposure to your neck, whether from medical treatment, working at a nuclear power plant or reactor, or living near a nuclear accident or release of radioactive materials
  • You are unable or unwilling to have a needle biopsy of your thyroid
  • You are unwilling to have thyroid surgery (thyroidectomy)
  • Your final surgical results do not confirm papillary thyroid cancer
  • There is no single clearly identifiable main nodule in your thyroid
  • You have multiple thyroid nodules that make it impossible to clearly identify and sample one specific nodule
