- People who have been clinically diagnosed with bipolar disorder type I or type II
- People whose lithium levels in the blood have reached a stable therapeutic range (0.6–1.0 mM for those under 65, or 0.4–0.8 mM for those aged 65 and over) within the four weeks before joining the study
