Who might be able to join this trial:

• You are a woman who has not yet gone through menopause and are 18 years of age or older
• You have been diagnosed with endometriosis, confirmed by ultrasound, MRI, or previous surgery, affecting one or more specific areas such as the space between the rectum and vagina, ligaments or pelvic side walls, the rectum, other parts of the intestines, the diaphragm, the inner muscle wall of the uterus (adenomyosis), or surface/peritoneal endometriosis found during surgery
• You experience moderate to severe ongoing pelvic pain, rated 6 or higher out of 10 on a pain scale
• Your pain has not been adequately controlled by standard pain relievers such as paracetamol or anti-inflammatory medications (like ibuprofen)
• You have not been prescribed strong opioid (heavy prescription) painkillers, or if you were, you stopped taking them more than one week ago
• You are either scheduled for or waiting for surgery to remove endometriosis
• You are able to understand the patient information provided and can give your consent in writing
• Your hormonal therapy (if any) has not changed in the month before joining the trial

Who may not be able to join:

• Your ongoing pelvic pain is rated lower than 6 out of 10 on a pain scale
• Your endometriosis affects the bladder or the tubes that connect the kidneys to the bladder (ureters)
• You have raised pressure inside your skull (confirm with trial site)
• You have high blood pressure that is not well controlled, specifically above 180/100 mmHg when resting
• You have a thyroid condition
• You have or have had cancer
• You have a history of certain psychiatric conditions, such as schizophrenia, psychosis, delirium, or manic depression
• You have a serious illness affecting the heart, kidneys, lungs, or liver
• You have severe liver disease
• You have glaucoma (a condition affecting eye pressure)
• You are currently taking strong opioid (heavy prescription) painkillers
• You are taking certain medications called xanthine derivatives or ergometrine (confirm with trial site)
• You have unstable chest pain (angina), heart failure, or have previously had a stroke
• You currently have an active infection
• You have epilepsy
• You are trying to become pregnant or are currently breastfeeding
• You are not able to complete questionnaires written in Dutch
• You are not able to make decisions in your own best interest, as assessed by your treating doctor
• You have problems with alcohol or drug misuse
• You have a known allergy to ketamine or esketamine
• Your liver enzyme blood test results are abnormal at the start of the trial
