Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who are enrolled in primary care at the local VA (Veterans Affairs) health site
  • People who are experiencing significant emotional or mental distress in at least one of the following areas: post-traumatic stress (scoring 30 or above on a standard PTSD checklist, plus having experienced a qualifying traumatic event), depression (scoring 10 or above on a standard depression questionnaire), or anxiety (scoring 10 or above on a standard anxiety questionnaire)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People with serious cognitive impairment that would prevent them from actively taking part in the trial's activities
  • People who have attempted suicide or had strong thoughts of suicide in the past month
  • People who have had a therapy appointment outside of primary care in the last month and already have another such appointment scheduled
  • People whose psychiatric medication was changed outside of VA primary care in the past two months
  • People who express a preference to be referred directly to specialist mental health care rather than taking part in the trial
  • People who are currently receiving psychotherapy outside of the primary care setting on an ongoing basis (confirm with trial site)

Note: Veterans with mild traumatic brain injury or alcohol and substance use concerns are not automatically excluded from this trial. People already receiving mental health support as part of their standard VA primary care services are also not automatically excluded.
