Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are male and have been diagnosed with SBMA (Spinal and Bulbar Muscular Atrophy) confirmed by a genetic test showing a specific gene repeat number of 38 or higher
- You are between 18 and 75 years old
- You are experiencing one or more of the following: muscle wasting, weakness in your arms or legs, or difficulty with swallowing or speaking due to muscle weakness
- You are able to walk on your own, even if you use a cane or another walking aid (but not a wheelchair)
- You are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a diagnosed heart or cardiovascular condition that would make it unsafe for you to take a type of medication called beta2 agonists (the trial team will assess this)
- You have certain other health conditions such as glaucoma, a severely enlarged prostate, an overactive thyroid, or a rare adrenal gland tumor, or another condition the trial team believes could put you at risk
- You are currently taking beta-blocker medications or certain stimulant-type medications (note: if you take beta-blockers, you may still be eligible if you stop taking them at least 3 weeks before the trial starts — confirm with trial site)
- You are unable to walk at all, or you can only walk with the physical support of another person
- You have used beta2 agonist medications in the last 6 months
- You have taken part in another clinical drug trial in the last 3 months
- You have a muscle or nerve disease other than SBMA
