Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with Bipolar I or Bipolar II disorder (not cyclothymia or other related conditions)
- You are currently experiencing sleep problems, such as trouble sleeping, sleeping too much, or issues with your body clock (like going to sleep very late or at irregular times)
- You live in an English-speaking country and have spoken English for at least 10 years, speak English at home, or can demonstrate you understand English well
- You are currently receiving medical care for your bipolar disorder (the trial will help connect you with care if needed)
- Your bipolar medications have not changed in the past month
- Your weight has not changed by more than about 11 pounds (5 kg) in the past 3 months
- You currently eat across a period of 12 hours or more on at least two days per week
- You are able to use a smartphone camera and complete online surveys (a phone can be loaned to you if needed)
- You do not work night shifts and do not have responsibilities that regularly disrupt your sleep between 10pm and 5am more than once a week
- You are able to keep a food diary for 7 days, logging meals at least twice a day
- You are able to complete online questionnaires carefully and attentively
Who may not be able to join:
- You are currently going through an episode of depression, hypomania, mania, or psychosis
- You have ever been diagnosed with or treated for an eating disorder, or your answers to eating-related screening questions suggest a possible concern
- You have had an alcohol or drug use disorder in the past 3 months
- You are currently having serious thoughts of suicide along with a plan, intent, or history of attempts
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have an uncorrected thyroid condition, or a digestive condition that affects how your body absorbs nutrients
- You have certain medical conditions such as HIV, AIDS, lupus, or multiple sclerosis (confirm with trial site)
- You take certain medications that are not compatible with fasting, including clozapine, diabetes medications, blood sugar-lowering injections, corticosteroids, or medications that must be taken with food at specific times (confirm with trial site for your specific medication)
- You have significant memory or thinking difficulties, as assessed during the screening interview
