Who might be able to join this trial:
- A liver scan (MRI) has shown that fat makes up 5% or more of your liver tissue.
- You have at least one of the following metabolic health factors: a BMI of 23 or higher; a waist measurement of 90 cm or more (men) or 80 cm or more (women); high fasting blood sugar, high blood sugar after eating, high HbA1c, known diabetes, or taking medication for type 2 diabetes; high blood pressure or taking medication for it; high triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood) or taking medication for abnormal cholesterol/fats; or low "good" (HDL) cholesterol or taking medication for abnormal cholesterol/fats.
- You are willing and able to sign a written consent form agreeing to take part in the study.
Who may not be able to join:
- You have tested positive for hepatitis B or hepatitis C, or have a history of other liver diseases.
- You drink more than 30 grams of alcohol per day (if male) or more than 20 grams per day (if female) — roughly 2–3 standard drinks per day (confirm with trial site).
- Your liver is not functioning well, shown by certain abnormal blood test results or a history of fluid build-up in the abdomen, swollen veins in the food pipe, or confusion caused by liver problems.
- You are unable to have an MRI scan — for example, because of severe claustrophobia or having certain metal implants in your body.
- You have been diagnosed with, or currently have, liver cancer.
- You have had another type of cancer in the past, unless you have been in full remission for more than 5 years.
- You have previously had a liver transplant or surgery to remove part of your liver.
- You have other serious health conditions that would likely make it difficult for you to take part in lifestyle activities or attend follow-up appointments during the study.
