Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are a Veteran who has been formally diagnosed with Bipolar I Disorder, Bipolar II Disorder, or a similar bipolar condition (confirmed through a structured interview and/or medical records)
  • You have experienced at least one bipolar episode in the past 12 months, based on an interview and/or your medical records
  • You own a smartphone that can run the apps used in this study
  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • You are fluent in English
  • You are able to understand and agree to the study terms on your own, and do not have a court-appointed legal guardian making decisions for you
  • OR you are a provider or administrator at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System who is actively involved in caring for Veterans with bipolar disorder or overseeing mental health services there (this applies to focus group participants only)

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have been diagnosed with a major brain or neurological condition, such as Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, or Parkinson's disease
  • You score below a certain level on a standard memory and thinking test (called the MoCA), suggesting significant difficulties with thinking or memory
  • You have a physical condition that would prevent you from using smartphone apps
  • You are not able to give informed consent to participate in the study
  • You are under 18 years of age
