Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults between 18 and 65 years old who do not have diabetes
- People who have been diagnosed with bladder cancer and have not yet received any chemotherapy treatment
- People whose kidneys are functioning well, based on a specific kidney function measurement being above a set level (confirm with trial site)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a history of a condition called lactic acidosis (a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood)
- People who are currently taking certain medications that can harm the kidneys, such as frusemide, anti-inflammatory painkillers (like ibuprofen), or certain antibiotics (such as aminoglycosides or vancomycin)
- People whose kidney function is unstable or has suddenly gotten worse in a short period of time
- People who have heart failure, have recently had a heart attack, or have experienced a serious collapse of heart function
- People who have a severe infection or blood poisoning (sepsis), including any infection serious enough to require a hospital stay or the need for oxygen support or other emergency measures
- People who drink alcohol
- People who have serious breathing problems or respiratory failure
- People who have severe liver disease (at an advanced stage known as Child-Pugh class C)
- People whose cancer has spread to other parts of the body (metastasis)
