Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have a non-cancerous (benign) thyroid nodule that is smaller than 4cm
- You have a thyroid nodule that is suspected to be cancerous, is smaller than 2cm, and is considered suitable for a type of keyhole surgery performed through the mouth
Who may not be able to join:
- You are under 18 years old
- You cannot safely receive general anaesthesia (being fully put to sleep for surgery)
- You are considered a vulnerable person, for example due to a cognitive (thinking or memory) impairment, or because you are pregnant
- You have had previous surgery on the front of your neck
- You have previously had radiotherapy (radiation treatment) to your head or neck area
- Your thyroid nodule is cancerous and larger than 2cm
- You have another cancer present, or the cancer has spread to the side of the neck or other parts of the body
- Your thyroid gland has grown down behind the breastbone (confirm with trial site)
- You have a condition affecting your neck spine that prevents you from tilting your head back
- You have a Body Mass Index (BMI, a measure of body weight relative to height) greater than 35
- You have a serious ongoing illness that significantly shortens life expectancy or makes surgery much riskier
- You have an active infection that has not been treated
- You have a blood clotting problem that cannot be corrected with treatment
- You need emergency surgery
