Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 65 years old at the time of their weight-loss surgery
- People who had one of two specific types of weight-loss surgery: a sleeve gastrectomy (stomach stapling) or a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass
- People who, at the time of surgery, had a BMI of 35 or higher with at least one related health condition, or a BMI above 40 regardless of other health conditions
- People who have signed and dated a consent form agreeing to take part in the trial
- People for whom baseline health information is already available, including body measurements, blood test results, surgery details, medications taken, and any obesity-related health conditions
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had any previous surgery on their digestive system
- People who used certain approved weight-loss medications in Spain (orlistat, liraglutide 3.0 mg, or naltrexone/bupropion extended release) or long-term steroid tablets for more than 4 weeks in a row during the 3 years after their weight-loss surgery
- People who had severely reduced kidney function or liver cirrhosis before surgery
- People who developed serious health conditions that significantly limit normal daily activity, such as advanced heart disease, heart failure, stroke with lasting neurological effects, severe lung disease, serious joint problems, kidney failure, or active cancer
- People with known Type 1 diabetes or a related condition called LADA diabetes
- Women who become pregnant during the study follow-up period
- People currently dealing with drug or alcohol misuse
- People who develop an uncontrolled psychiatric illness or an eating disorder during the follow-up period
