Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults between 18 and 75 years of age
- People who have been diagnosed with lung cancer that has spread to the spine (confirmed by laboratory tissue testing)
- People whose doctors estimate they have a life expectancy of more than 3 months and are considered well enough to undergo surgery
- People whose spine is unstable and/or who have pressure on the spinal cord or nerves causing worsening nerve function, requiring surgery to relieve that pressure
- People whose hemoglobin (a measure of red blood cells in the blood) drops below 90 g/L during or after surgery, or who have another medical reason requiring a blood transfusion
Who may not be able to join:
- People with serious heart problems or heart failure, a diagnosed blood disorder, or a condition affecting the blood's ability to clot
- People with severe kidney failure or who require dialysis treatment
- People who have a serious widespread infection in the body (sepsis or blood poisoning)
- People who are unable to give consent themselves, and whose family members are also unable to provide consent on their behalf
