Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with bladder cancer (specifically urothelial carcinoma) confirmed by a tissue biopsy, at clinical stage T2-3N0M0. Certain subtypes of this cancer (micropapillary, glandular, squamous, and sarcomatoid) are also allowed.
- People whose cancer is in one area, or in a limited number of areas, such that a surgeon specialising in urologic oncology considers it possible to remove completely while keeping most of the bladder (partial cystectomy).
- People aged 18 years or older.
- People who are generally well enough to carry out most daily activities, as measured by standard health performance scales (confirm with trial site).
- People whose liver, blood, and bone marrow are functioning within acceptable ranges, based on blood test results (confirm with trial site for specific values).
- People who are able to understand the study information and are willing to sign a consent form.
- People whose tumour measures 5 cm or less at its widest point, as seen on imaging scans.
- People who have not previously received treatment for muscle-invasive bladder cancer.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a blockage causing swelling in the kidneys (hydronephrosis).
- People whose cancer is spread across multiple areas of the bladder in a way that cannot be fully removed with a partial cystectomy.
- People who have cancer cells present in areas of the bladder lining away from the main tumour (distant carcinoma in situ).
- People whose cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes or to other parts of the body.
- People whose tumour has grown into surrounding tissues beyond a certain stage (cT4 or higher).
- People whose cancer is not urothelial carcinoma in origin.
- People who also have bladder cancer occurring in the upper urinary tract (ureter or the part of the kidney that connects to the ureter) or in the urethra at the same time.
- People who are not considered suitable for surgery due to other health conditions, or who do not wish to have surgery.
- People for whom the trial investigators believe participation would not be in their best interest or could interfere with how the study is conducted.
