Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been confirmed by a pathology test to have squamous cell carcinoma (a type of cancer) located in the oropharynx — this includes the tonsils, base of the tongue, soft palate, or the walls of the oropharynx (the middle part of the throat)
- People who have measurable disease that can be detected by a physical examination or imaging scan, either at the main tumour site or in nearby lymph nodes
- People whose cancer tissue has tested positive for a protein called P16, based on a laboratory staining test done at the treating site
- People whose cancer is at a specific stage — not too advanced and not yet spread to distant parts of the body (clinical stage T1–3, N1–2, M0 according to a standard cancer staging system)
- People aged 65 or older
- People whose blood test results, taken within 14 days before registration, show that their blood counts and organ function are within acceptable ranges (including healthy levels of white blood cells, platelets, haemoglobin, liver function markers, and kidney function)
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose cancer has spread to distant parts of the body (metastatic disease)
- People whose cancer has come back after previously being treated
- People whose cancer originated outside the oropharynx region (confirm with trial site)
- People who have two separate primary cancers occurring at the same time
- People who have previously had radiation therapy for lymphoma or another cancer
- People who have previously received systemic treatments, including immunotherapy
- People with serious ongoing health conditions where life expectancy is estimated to be less than one year
- People with an autoimmune disease (a condition where the immune system attacks the body's own tissues)
- People with HIV that is not well controlled
