Who might be able to join this trial:
- Children under 18 years old who have epilepsy that has not been controlled by at least two different seizure medications, and who are being treated with a ketogenic diet (a special high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet)
- Children under 18 years old who have a genetic, metabolic, or neurological condition (whether present from birth or developed later) and are being treated with a ketogenic diet, even if they do not have epilepsy — this includes newer uses of the ketogenic diet or its use in intensive care settings for severe, prolonged seizures
Who may not be able to join:
- Children who have certain conditions affecting how the body processes fats, carnitine, or energy, including: beta-oxidation cycle disorders, primary carnitine deficiency, primary dyslipidemia, pyruvate carboxylase deficiency, porphyria, mitochondrial disease, problems with how the body makes or breaks down ketones, or problems with the body's process of making glucose
- Children who have type 1 diabetes
- Children whose parents or caregivers are not able to reliably follow the requirements of the diet and study (confirm with trial site for full details of this criterion)
