Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with ADHD
- People who are between 12 and 17 years old
- People who take stimulant medication for ADHD may still be considered, as long as the medication is stopped 24 hours before and on the days of the TMS treatment visits
Who may not be able to join:
- People with certain medical conditions that may make TMS (a type of brain stimulation) less safe, including a history of brain injury, epilepsy or seizures, brain tumours, stroke, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, conditions that cause the brain to deteriorate over time, hearing loss, or metal objects in the head
- People who have any implanted medical devices in their body, such as ports, shunts, brain or nerve stimulators, or cochlear implants
- Females who have already started their menstrual cycle and are currently pregnant (based on a urine test)
- People who have an existing hearing problem or long-term ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
- People whose brain MRI shows any finding that doctors consider significant
- People with a history of certain diagnosed mental health conditions, including conduct disorder, major depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety disorder, or psychotic disorders (as defined by DSM-5 criteria)
- People who currently take non-stimulant ADHD medications, such as guanfacine, clonidine, atomoxetine, or tricyclic medications
- People who currently take antipsychotic or neuroleptic medications
- People who are unable to undergo an MRI scan
- People who are currently at risk of suicide, have a history of suicidal behaviour, or are assessed by a study doctor as being at high risk
- People who have had a problem with drug or alcohol misuse or dependence within the past year, as determined through screening questions and a urine drug test (an exception may apply if a positive test result is caused by a prescribed ADHD stimulant medication)
