Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with cancer that has spread to the brain (brain metastases), regardless of where the original cancer started
- People who are planned to receive a type of radiation treatment called whole-brain radiation therapy (a version that protects a part of the brain called the hippocampus is also acceptable)
- People who are not taking other cancer-fighting medications at the same time as the radiation treatment (a memory-support medication called memantine is acceptable)
- People who will be treated as an outpatient (not staying in hospital) when treatment begins

Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unwilling or unable to receive a daily arginine supplement (given either through a drip or by mouth) for the 10 days of radiation treatment
- People who are continuing other cancer treatments (systemic therapy) during the radiation treatment period
- People whose kidney function test results are above a certain level (creatinine higher than 1.5 times the upper limit of normal — confirm with trial site)
- People whose liver function test results are above a certain level (ALT higher than 6 times the upper limit of normal — confirm with trial site)
- People who are planned to receive treatment while staying in hospital as an inpatient
- People under 18 years of age
- People who are not able to give their own informed consent
- People who are pregnant
- People who are currently in prison
- People with cognitive impairment or reduced ability to make decisions
