Who might be able to join this trial:
- Men between the ages of 22 and 40 years old.
- Men with a BMI of 30 or above (classified as obesity by World Health Organization standards).
- Men who are willing and able to give informed consent and attend ongoing appointments at the Reproductive Center of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, including completing all required tests.
- Men whose female partner is aged 20–40, has a regular menstrual cycle (cycle length of 21–35 days, lasting 2–7 days), has a BMI between 18.5 and under 25, and is planning to undergo assisted reproductive treatment (ART) at that centre due to male-related infertility.
- Men who are not currently participating in, and have not participated in, any other research study in the past three months.
- Men who agree to allow any children conceived through the study to take part in future follow-up research.
Who may not be able to join:
- Men with known reproductive or urinary system conditions, such as active infections of the reproductive or urinary tract, low hormone production from the testes, high prolactin levels, excess oestrogen, or undescended testicles.
- Men with acute or ongoing illnesses that could affect fertility, including serious long-term health conditions, a history of chemotherapy or radiation to the pelvis, or other acute illnesses that could affect the study results.
- Men with digestive system or metabolic conditions, including gut diseases that affect nutrient absorption, a history of or current eating disorder, allergies to any ingredients in meal replacement products, gout, kidney stones, gallstones, or a history of weight loss surgery.
- Men with certain lifestyle habits, including heavy alcohol use, daily smoking, a history of drug abuse, or a history of substance abuse.
- Men who are unable to fully consent to participation, have a significant mental health condition, work in a role requiring intense physical activity, follow a diet that may interfere with the study's dietary plans, or who currently use or have previously used hormones, anti-obesity medications, or other drugs that affect hormone levels, carbohydrate metabolism, or appetite.
