  • Thai women between 18 and 45 years old who are classified as obese and have an upcoming bariatric (weight-loss) surgery appointment at Chulalongkorn Hospital
  • People who need a form of contraception (birth control)
  • People who are able to use non-hormonal birth control methods during the study period

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are currently pregnant or who have given birth within the last 3 months

  • People who have used the injectable contraceptive DMPA (a hormonal birth control injection) within the last 12 months
  • People who have used any other type of hormonal birth control pill within the last 4 weeks
  • People who have had both ovaries removed or have had their uterus removed
  • People with a suspected ovarian tumour or an abnormal ovarian cyst
  • People who smoke cigarettes regularly
  • People who have medical reasons that make the medication Drospirenone (a type of hormonal drug) unsuitable for them
