Who might be able to join this trial:
- You must sign and date a written consent form agreeing to take part in the trial
- You have been diagnosed with a type of skin cancer that is not melanoma — specifically basal cell carcinoma (BCC) or squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), confirmed by a tissue sample (biopsy)
- Your skin cancer is at a certain stage of growth or spread (classified as T2 or higher according to standard cancer staging)
- Your tumor is no more than 2cm deep, as measured on a pathology report or scan
- If your cancer has come back in the same area, it is allowed as long as your first treatment (other than radiotherapy) was more than 6 months ago
- You are 65 years of age or older
- You are reasonably active and able to care for yourself, and your doctors expect you to live for more than 6 months
- Your case must be reviewed at a specific Swiss medical network tumor conference (confirm with trial site)
Who may not be able to join:
- Your skin cancer is a type other than BCC or SCC
- Your tumor is at an early stage (T1) or has spread to nearby lymph nodes
- Your tumor remains after surgery, or you need treatment after an operation to remove remaining cancer cells
- Your tumor has grown into sensitive or critical areas of the body (confirm with trial site)
- You have multiple tumor spots that are too widespread to be treated within a single treatment area
- You have received chemotherapy or immunotherapy within the last month, or are currently receiving it
- You have a connective tissue disorder, such as scleroderma or lupus
- Your tumor is located within or very close to (within 3cm of) an area of your body that has previously been treated with radiation
- You are taking medication that suppresses your immune system
- You have tattoos in the area that would be treated with radiation
- You have increased sensitivity to light, either due to a medical condition like porphyria or because of medications that make you more sensitive to light
