Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who are currently serving in the military or who have previously served (veterans)
  • People who have been experiencing at least one nightmare per week over the past month
  • People who score at least 8 on a standard sleep difficulty questionnaire called the ISI (Insomnia Severity Index)
  • People who are taking medication for PTSD, depression, anxiety, or sleep problems, as long as the dose has been stable for at least 8 weeks

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are at serious risk of suicide
  • People with psychosis, bipolar disorder, or a current alcohol or drug use disorder
  • People who have sleep apnea that has not been treated, or where treatment is not adequately managing the condition
  • People who are currently using certain medications, including synthetic glucocorticoids, beta blockers, prazosin, or varenicline
  • People who are currently receiving any form of therapy — either standard or experimental — that specifically targets nightmares, insomnia, or PTSD
  • People who are unable to remember the content of their nightmares
  • People who are unable to wear a wristband device or sync its data to a computer or phone
  • People who are unable to have blood drawn as part of the study
  • People who do not agree to having their DNA analysed from blood samples taken during the study
  • People who do not agree to having their study visits audio recorded
  • People who have REM sleep behaviour disorder or narcolepsy, as assessed by the study investigator
