Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter (any type — occasional, recurring, or continuous)
  • Your doctor has calculated a stroke risk score (called CHA2DS2-VASc) of 2 or more points (or 3 or more points if you are female)

  • You have previously had bleeding inside the brain
  • You have a condition that affects your blood's ability to clot (other than one caused by kidney disease)
  • Your platelet count (blood cells that help clotting) is below 50,000 per mm³
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have a mechanical heart valve replacement
  • You have moderate to severe narrowing of the mitral valve in your heart
  • You are taking, or need to take, certain blood-thinning or anti-clotting medications beyond a single low-dose aspirin (confirm with trial site)
  • You have a serious illness beyond kidney or heart disease (for example, advanced cancer) that your doctor believes may affect your survival within 12 months
