Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter (any type — occasional, recurring, or continuous)
- Your doctor has calculated a stroke risk score (called CHA2DS2-VASc) of 2 or more points (or 3 or more points if you are female)
- You have advanced chronic kidney disease with very low kidney function (confirmed by at least two blood tests taken 3 months apart), or you are already on a regular kidney replacement treatment such as dialysis
Who may not be able to join:
- You are currently bleeding, or have had a serious bleeding episode within the last month
- You have previously had a kidney transplant
- You are not willing to give your consent to take part

- You need blood-thinning medication for another reason, such as a blood clot in the leg or lungs
- You have previously had bleeding inside the brain
- You have a condition that affects your blood's ability to clot (other than one caused by kidney disease)
- Your platelet count (blood cells that help clotting) is below 50,000 per mm³
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have a mechanical heart valve replacement
- You have moderate to severe narrowing of the mitral valve in your heart
- You are taking, or need to take, certain blood-thinning or anti-clotting medications beyond a single low-dose aspirin (confirm with trial site)
- You have a serious illness beyond kidney or heart disease (for example, advanced cancer) that your doctor believes may affect your survival within 12 months
