Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People between 18 and 65 years old
  • People who have experienced a traumatic event and have significant PTSD symptoms across at least two symptom groups
  • People who have been diagnosed with heart or artery disease (such as a heart attack, blocked arteries, or calcium buildup in blood vessels), or who have more than two of the following risk factors: high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, or currently smoking
  • People who are fluent English speakers
  • People who are able to understand and sign a consent form

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have had a stroke, brain surgery, or seizures
  • People currently taking certain heart medications, such as beta-blockers, high-intensity cholesterol-lowering drugs (such as rosuvastatin 20/40 mg or atorvastatin 40/80 mg), or PCSK-9 inhibitors
  • People who have changed their heart or psychiatric medications within the past 4 weeks (a stable, unchanged medication routine is acceptable)
  • People who are currently receiving therapy specifically for PTSD
  • People who have a neurological condition, a systemic inflammatory disease, or who are currently taking anti-inflammatory medication
  • People with moderate or severe alcohol or substance use disorder
  • People currently experiencing mania or psychosis
  • People who weigh more than 300 pounds, have claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces), are pregnant, have certain metal implants that are not safe for MRI scans, or have poorly controlled blood sugar levels
  • People who have had significant radiation exposure for research purposes (more than 2 nuclear medicine tests, CT scans, or fluoroscopic procedures) in the past 12 months
