Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged 18 or older
  • People whose body mass index (BMI) is 30 or higher, OR whose BMI is 27 or higher and who also have at least one weight-related health condition (such as diabetes or pre-diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, fatty liver disease, or heart disease)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People for whom the medications Wegovy© or Mounjaro© are considered unsafe — for example, those with a personal or family history of a specific type of thyroid cancer (medullary thyroid cancer), a personal history of a condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 2 (MEN2), or those who are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to become pregnant
  • People who have previously had weight-loss (bariatric) surgery or a related non-surgical weight-loss procedure
  • People who have chronic pancreatitis (long-term inflammation of the pancreas)
  • People who have taken weight-loss medications within one month before joining the trial
  • People with type 1 diabetes
  • People who have had other major surgery on the digestive system before starting the study medication
  • People with an ongoing digestive system condition (such as gastroparesis, coeliac disease, or Inflammatory Bowel Disease)
  • People with a confirmed diagnosis of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)
  • People with active gastritis or gastroenteritis (stomach or gut inflammation/infection)
  • People who regularly use medications that speed up digestion or laxatives
  • People with a mental illness that is currently not well controlled
  • People with significant decline in thinking or memory abilities
  • People who drink more than one alcoholic drink per day (for women) or more than two alcoholic drinks per day (for men)
  • People who, once enrolled, choose not to start or stop taking Wegovy© or Mounjaro© and miss more than two injections in a row, or who undergo weight-loss surgery or a related procedure during the study period
