Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 18 and 75 years old (including those ages exactly)
  • You are able to carry out some or all of your normal daily activities (your doctor can confirm this based on your general health score)
  • You are expected to live for more than 3 months
  • You have been diagnosed with differentiated thyroid cancer, have had your thyroid fully or mostly removed, and your cancer has come back locally or spread to other parts of the body, confirmed by scans, blood tests, or biopsy
  • You have at least one measurable tumour that is 10mm or larger in size
  • Your blood counts, kidney function, and liver function results meet certain healthy ranges (your doctor will check these)
  • If you are a woman who could become pregnant, you have had a negative pregnancy test within 7 days before joining, and you agree to use reliable contraception during the trial and for 1 year after your last treatment dose
  • If you are a man, you agree to use reliable contraception during the trial and for 6 months after your last treatment dose
  • You are willing to take part, have signed a consent form, and are able to attend follow-up appointments
  • Your medical team has discussed your case and determined that your thyroid cancer is not responding, or may not respond, to radioactive iodine treatment

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have fluid build-up around your lungs or in your abdomen that is causing breathing difficulties
  • You have brain metastases (cancer spread to the brain) that cannot be controlled, or are at risk of serious complications such as airway blockage, spinal cord compression, heart problems, or heart failure
  • You have uncontrolled high blood pressure despite taking medication
  • You have significant heart rhythm problems, a recent heart attack, or moderate-to-severe heart failure (confirm with trial site)
  • You have poorly controlled diabetes with high fasting blood sugar levels
  • You have a serious active infection that is not well controlled
  • You have active hepatitis B or hepatitis C with certain blood marker levels, or an active infection currently requiring antibiotic, antiviral, or antifungal treatment
  • Your kidneys are not functioning well enough, shown by protein in your urine or a 24-hour urine test result above a certain level
  • You have seizures that require ongoing treatment
  • You had surgery, a surgical biopsy, or a major injury within 28 days before joining the trial
  • You are unable to stop using, or have a history of abusing, psychiatric medications
  • You are allergic to either of the study treatments (radioactive iodine or the hormone injection used in this trial) or any of their ingredients
  • You had a bacterial, viral, or fungal infection in the 4 weeks before screening and still have symptoms
  • You received a certain type of iodine-based contrast dye (used in scans) within the past 3 months, or a water-based iodine contrast dye within the past 1 month
  • You are pregnant, breastfeeding, had unprotected sex in the 2 weeks before screening, or had a positive pregnancy blood test at screening
  • You or your partner are planning to have a baby or donate eggs or sperm during the study or within 6 months after it ends, and you are unwilling to use contraception during that time
  • The trial doctors believe any other condition you have could put you at risk or prevent you from completing the study
