Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 21 years of age or older.
- You have either just started TB treatment (within the last 7 days or less) or are about to begin TB treatment.
- You have been diagnosed with, or are strongly suspected to have, tuberculosis (TB) affecting the brain and/or its surrounding lining (TB meningitis) — this includes cases that are confirmed by lab tests, or considered likely or possible based on symptoms and test results.
- Your liver enzyme levels (a measure of liver health from a blood test) are within an acceptable range — not more than 3 times the upper limit of normal.
- You are able to give your own consent to take part, or a close family member is able to give consent on your behalf if you are unable to do so yourself.
- You are able to have a lumbar puncture (a procedure to collect fluid from around the spine) and a brain scan (either a CT or MRI scan) at the start of the study.
Who may not be able to join:
- You currently have active cancer.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You have a known allergy to a group of antibiotics called tetracyclines.
- You are currently taking certain medications — specifically retinoic acid, neuromuscular blocking agents, or pimozide — which could increase the risk of harmful drug interactions.
- You have an autoimmune disease or are currently taking medicines that suppress your immune system.
- You have taken part in another clinical trial or used an experimental drug, vaccine, or medical device in the past 6 months (182 days), or plan to do so during this study.
- You are currently enrolled in another clinical trial that involves a medication or procedure affecting the brain or nervous system.
- You have a medical reason why you cannot safely take steroids.
- The trial doctors believe you may be unwilling or unable to follow the study's requirements, including attending follow-up visits, or they have identified something that could put you at significantly higher risk of harm by taking part (confirm with trial site).
