Who might be able to join this trial:
- Babies under 12 months of age
- Babies who have been diagnosed with a condition called Neuroendocrine Cell Hyperplasia of Infancy (NEHI), confirmed either by a clinical scoring tool (called the Liptzin score) combined with a specific chest scan pattern, or by a clinical assessment, chest scan, and a lung tissue sample showing an increased number of certain specialised cells in the airways
- Babies who need supplemental oxygen (whether awake, asleep, or both), based on standard children's medical guidelines
- Babies who are being cared for at one of the RespiRare participating medical centres
- Babies whose parent(s) or legal guardian(s) have given written consent for participation before the trial begins
Who may not be able to join:
- Babies where another cause for their lung condition has been identified through blood tests, genetic testing, airway fluid sampling, or a lung tissue sample
- Babies who have previously received intravenous methylprednisolone (a type of steroid medication given through a drip) at any point
- Babies who have diabetes
- Babies who have high blood pressure that is not well controlled
- Babies who do not have health insurance coverage
- Babies who currently have an active infection
- Babies who have received a live attenuated vaccine (a specific type of vaccine) within the past two weeks
- Babies who are already on long-term treatment with Azithromycin and/or Hydroxychloroquine (specific medications)
- Babies who are already taking part in another interventional clinical study or trial
