- You are between 3 and 85 years old (male or female)
- If you have Primary Mitochondrial Disease: You have been diagnosed with this condition confirmed through a specific genetic (DNA) test of your mitochondria
- If you are a Healthy Volunteer: Your vital signs (such as heart rate and blood pressure) and body weight are normal for your age, you have no active health conditions, and you take no regular medications (except for paracetamol/acetaminophen or naproxen sodium)
- You have not had a viral or bacterial illness in the past 2 weeks
- You have not taken any antibiotic or antiviral medications in the past 2 weeks
- You have not had a blood transfusion in the past 2 weeks
- You are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- You drink fewer than 2 alcoholic drinks per day
- You have not used recreational or illegal drugs in the past year
- You have not used tobacco or any nicotine-containing products in the past year
- You (or your parent or guardian, if applicable) are able to understand and sign a written consent form voluntarily
Who may not be able to join:
- You have previously received a stem cell transplant from another person (allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation)
- You have previously received gene therapy
