Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 65 years old
- You have been diagnosed with a current episode of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB in the lungs), confirmed by a sputum test or a GeneXpert test showing the TB is not resistant to the antibiotic rifampicin
- Your chest X-ray shows TB affecting a significant portion of both lungs (at least 30% of the lungs), classed as moderate or advanced TB
- You do not have HIV
- You are willing and able to attend scheduled appointments, follow the treatment plan, and complete required tests and procedures
- You are able to read and sign a consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- You are currently pregnant
- You are currently breastfeeding
- Your kidney or liver test results are significantly above the normal range (more than twice the upper normal level)
- You have been taking steroid medications for 14 days or more, or have already been taking TB treatment for more than 7 days
- You are already taking part in another clinical trial
- You have diabetes, or have previously taken or are currently taking the medication metformin
- You have been diagnosed with cancer, or are currently taking cancer treatment
- You are taking any medication that is known to interact with the trial drug
- You have a known allergy to doxycycline or similar antibiotics (tetracyclines)
- You have a known autoimmune disease (a condition where your immune system attacks your own body)
- You have any other health factor that the trial team believes could significantly increase your risk of side effects (confirm with trial site)
