Who might be able to join this trial:
- People diagnosed with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (a specific type of cancer affecting the head and neck area) at Stage III or Stage IV
- People who have already had surgery to remove the cancer, where the surgery showed either cancer had spread outside nearby lymph nodes in the neck, or the surgical edges were positive or too close to the cancer (meaning not enough healthy tissue was removed around the tumour)
- People with no signs that the cancer has spread to distant parts of the body
- People who are reasonably well and able to carry out daily activities, as measured by a standard health scoring tool called the Karnofsky scale (score above 70)
- People whose blood cell counts fall within acceptable ranges — including white blood cells, red blood cells (haemoglobin), and platelets
- People whose liver is functioning within normal ranges, based on specific blood test results
- People whose kidneys are functioning well enough, based on a measure of how efficiently the kidneys filter the blood
- People who have been informed about the study and have signed a consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- People younger than 18 or older than 70 years of age
- People whose treatment goal is to manage symptoms rather than to treat the cancer directly (palliative treatment)
- People who have previously received chemotherapy, except for chemotherapy given before surgery to shrink the tumour
- People who have previously received radiation therapy
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who have had a different type of cancer in the past
- People with certain serious health conditions that could increase risk or affect their ability to follow the trial requirements, such as unstable heart disease requiring treatment, kidney disease, chronic hepatitis, poorly controlled diabetes, or a mental illness
