Who might be able to join this trial:

• You were 18 years old or older when you were diagnosed with coeliac disease
• You have been diagnosed with coeliac disease confirmed by intestinal damage (villous atrophy), a positive blood test, and you improved both in symptoms and blood test results after starting a gluten-free diet
• You have been following a gluten-free diet for at least 2 years and have been sticking to it well
• Your coeliac-related blood test (anti-transglutaminase IgA) is either negative or only slightly above normal (less than twice the normal level) at the time of joining the trial
• You are willing and able to provide written consent to participate

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have a form of coeliac disease that does not respond to a gluten-free diet (called refractory coeliac disease, type 1 or type 2)
• People who have other bowel conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, microscopic colitis, or other intestinal disorders
• People who need to take steroid or immune-suppressing medications
• People who have had gut surgery or have conditions that can cause a bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine (confirm with trial site)
• People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
• People who have serious long-term conditions affecting the lungs, heart, kidneys, or liver (including liver cirrhosis)
• People with alcohol dependency or drug addiction
• People with certain mental health conditions including schizophrenia, other psychoses, or bipolar disorder
