Who might be able to join this trial:
- People between 18 and 70 years of age
- People with a BMI above 19 kg/m² and a body weight under 250 kg
- People who have had bariatric (weight loss) surgery and have since regained more than 10% of the weight they originally lost, with this regain happening between 1 and 5 years after their surgery — participants will need to report their own weight loss history and provide a copy of their surgery report
- People who are in generally good health, with no conditions that could affect the trial results, as assessed by the trial doctor through medical history, physical examination, and lab tests
- People who are willing and able to follow all study requirements for the full duration of the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People with Type 1 diabetes
- People with nerve damage in their feet that causes loss of feeling
- People who have donated blood in the last 2 months
- People who are currently taking beta-blocker medications
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- People with active heart or lung disease
- People with severely high blood pressure (systolic above 160 mmHg or diastolic above 90 mmHg)
- People who are unable to exercise for any reason
- People for whom exercise testing would not be considered safe based on current guidelines from the American College of Sports Medicine
- People with certain implants or metal objects in their body that are not compatible with MRI scanning, such as pacemakers, aneurysm clips, artificial heart valves, ear implants, or metal fragments in the eyes, skin, or body
- People with a known structural abnormality in the brain, such as a tumour or a scar from a stroke
- People with another neurological condition that could affect the study findings, such as multiple sclerosis
- People with a history of heart disease, stroke, or heart failure
- People with active disorders affecting the blood, kidneys, lungs, or liver
- People currently receiving treatment for cancer
- People with a current or recent history of alcohol or substance abuse
- People with any serious or unstable illness that could make it difficult to follow the study procedures
- People with claustrophobia or who are unable to tolerate an MRI scan
- People with a body weight above 250 kg or a body width greater than 70 cm, due to the physical limits of the MRI scanner used in the study
- People who are unwilling or unable to attend study visits, complete brain and thinking tests, or undergo MRI scanning
- People who are left-handed
