Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are willing to take part and are happy to sign a consent form
  • You are aged 14 or older but under 80 years old (any gender)
  • You have been diagnosed with thyroid cancer confirmed by a tissue sample test, including types such as differentiated thyroid cancer, medullary carcinoma, or poorly differentiated carcinoma
  • You are considered at high risk of the cancer coming back in the same area, which may include: the surgeon was not able to remove all of the cancer during the operation; you have had treatment before surgery to shrink the tumour; you have a type of thyroid cancer known to have a poorer outlook; the cancer has grown beyond the thyroid and into nearby structures such as the food pipe, windpipe, or nearby nerves; or you have cancer that has spread to other parts of the body and the study team feels local treatment may help
  • Your major organs (such as heart, liver, and kidneys) are working well enough to take part
  • You are able and willing to attend follow-up appointments and cooperate with the study team

Who may not be able to join:

  • Your thyroid cancer has not been treated at all, or has only had a biopsy performed
  • You have had, or currently have, another active cancer within the past 5 years (though certain fully treated skin cancers and some other early-stage cancers that have been cured may still be eligible — confirm with trial site)
  • You have previously had radiation therapy to your head or neck area
  • You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have other health conditions that would prevent you from receiving the standard treatment used in this trial
  • The study team feels there are other reasons that might mean you would have to stop the trial early, such as serious physical or mental illness, very abnormal blood test results, or personal or family circumstances that could affect your safety or the collection of study data
  • You have claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces) that would prevent you from undergoing radiation therapy
  • The treating doctor decides for any other reason that this trial is not appropriate for you
