Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have a general health and functioning score above 70 on a standard medical scale (called the Karnofsky score), meaning they are largely able to carry out normal daily activities
- People who have been confirmed by laboratory testing to have a specific type of nasopharyngeal cancer (cancer at the back of the nose and throat), classified as WHO type II or III, which includes differentiated or undifferentiated non-keratinized carcinoma, or carcinoma in situ
- People whose cancer has been staged as Stage I (T1N0M0) according to a standard international cancer staging system (the eighth edition of UICC/AJCC)
- People whose lymph nodes in the back of the throat and neck are either small enough to fall within specific size limits, or are slightly larger but showed no signs of cancer activity on a PET/CT scan (confirm with trial site for exact measurements)
- People who have read and signed an informed consent form and are willing to attend all follow-up visits, treatments, and examinations required by the study
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose MRI scan shows the main tumour is larger than 1.5cm, or shows a blood vessel abnormality near a major artery that could make surgery unsafe
- People who have been diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer that has come back after previous treatment, or has spread to other parts of the body, or who have any other type of cancer at the same time
- People with serious problems affecting major organs or overall physical health that would make surgery or radiation treatment unsafe
- People who are unlikely to be able to attend regular follow-up appointments due to mental health, social, family, or geographic reasons
