Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You must be 18 years of age or older at the time of signing the consent form.
  • You may need to provide a tumor tissue sample to check for a specific protein called PD-L1 (if this applies to your situation).
  • You must be fairly active and able to care for yourself — able to do light activities, though you may not be able to do heavy physical work (this is measured on a standard scale called ECOG 0 or 1).
  • Your cancer must be measurable using standard imaging scans.
  • Your doctors expect you to live for at least 12 weeks.
  • Your organs (such as kidneys and liver) and bone marrow must be working well enough to take part.
  • You must weigh more than 35 kg (about 77 lbs).
  • You must be able to understand and sign a consent form agreeing to take part.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have cancer that is pressing on your spinal cord.
  • You have cancer that has spread to the brain, unless it is stable, causing no symptoms, and you have not needed steroid medication for it for at least 14 days (rules differ slightly depending on which part of the trial you would join — confirm with trial site).
  • Depending on which part of the trial you would join, certain rare cancer types (such as neuroendocrine, sarcomatoid, or mesenchymal tumours) may not be eligible (confirm with trial site).
  • You are still experiencing significant side effects from a previous cancer treatment that have not returned to a mild or normal level.
  • Depending on which part of the trial you would join, you have had radiation therapy within the last 2 weeks.
  • Depending on which part of the trial you would join, you are unable to take certain chemotherapy drugs (5-FU, paclitaxel, or carboplatin) due to known contraindications (confirm with trial site).
  • You have had another cancer in the past, unless it was fully treated at least 2 years ago with no signs of return, or it was a common skin cancer or a very early-stage cancer that was fully removed.
  • You have another serious illness, or a history of an organ transplant or bone marrow/stem cell transplant, that could make it unsafe or impractical for you to take part.
  • You have an active infection, including tuberculosis, poorly controlled HIV, active hepatitis B, hepatitis C, or hepatitis A.
  • You have a history of a primary immune system deficiency, or a current or past autoimmune or inflammatory condition (such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, or similar illnesses).
  • Your cancer could potentially be cured with existing standard treatments.
  • You have previously received any treatment that works through the immune system (called immunotherapy).
  • You have taken medication that suppresses your immune system in the 14 days before starting the trial, with some exceptions such as steroid nasal sprays, inhalers, skin creams, or a single dose used for pain relief or allergy prevention (confirm with trial site).
  • Depending on which part of the trial you would join, you have received any cancer treatment within the past 28 days, or within a certain time period based on the specific drug used, whichever is longer.
  • You are currently receiving other cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, or hormonal therapy alongside this trial (other than the treatments provided by this trial itself).
  • You have had a large area of your body treated with radiation, or radiation covering more than 30% of your bone marrow, within the past 4 weeks.
  • You have had major surgery within the past 4 weeks, or you are still recovering from a previous surgery.
  • You have received a live vaccine (such as yellow fever or shingles vaccine) within the past 30 days.
  • You have a known allergy or serious reaction to any of the medications or ingredients used in this trial.
  • If you are joining a specific part of the trial (sub-study 5): you have previously had any systemic cancer treatment, non-palliative radiation therapy, or a major lung surgery for a type of cancer called pleural mesothelioma.
