Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged 18 years or older
  • People scheduled to have their uterus removed using a minimally invasive approach (either laparoscopic, which uses small cuts in the belly, or robotic surgery), while keeping their ovaries

  • People who agree to take part in the study

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have ongoing (chronic) pain conditions, including fibromyalgia
  • People who have been taking opioid pain medications regularly for more than three months
  • People currently taking medications that work as both opioid activators and blockers, such as buprenorphine
  • People currently taking antidepressants known as SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) or MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors)
  • People whose surgery is changed during the procedure to a larger open operation (called a laparotomy) rather than the planned minimally invasive approach
  • People who have a known allergy or medical reason that prevents them from safely taking any of the study medications, which include methadone, fentanyl, acetaminophen, or oxycodone
  • People who have severe obstructive sleep apnea, a condition where breathing repeatedly stops during sleep
  • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
