Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have been diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer (a specific type of thyroid cancer), confirmed by laboratory testing of tissue samples
• People between the ages of 14 and 80
• People whose lymph node biopsy (a procedure using a thin needle) before surgery has confirmed that cancer has spread to lymph nodes on the side of the neck
• People whose ultrasound and CT scans show that affected or possibly affected lymph nodes are found only in a specific zone of the neck (called compartment IV), with only 1–2 affected lymph nodes, each measuring less than 1cm across, and showing no signs of tissue breakdown or blockage in surrounding areas (confirm with trial site)
• People whose thyroid cancer has not grown beyond the thyroid gland itself
• People whose thyroid gland is large enough to allow an injection of a tracking substance during the procedure

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have previously had surgery on their neck
• People who have had lymph nodes removed from both sides of the neck
• People whose cancer has spread to distant parts of the body
• People whose cancer is classified as a higher-risk type, or who have other specific factors that increase the risk of the cancer returning (confirm with trial site)
• People who have previously received treatment for thyroid cancer other than hormone therapy
• People who would not be able to attend or participate in follow-up appointments
